The
hand painted
Celtic style signs
at either end of the village lead to the shop & café
in the
heart of Kilmelford. One of the oldest stone buildings in the village,
the shop and café nestle in between the old church and the
burn
of Alt na Cille.
The smell of home cooking often
leads you to the front door,
inside you
will find a traditional village shop with a difference, the shop is
spread over three floors, and mingles informally with the
café
and
crafts area, so that you can linger and browse.
We try to stock all the usual commodities that you would expect from a
village shop, but in addition a range of goodies that you
don’t
find in
most……We
stock a range of delicatessen goods, Scottish cheeses, locally smoked
fish and
meats, local wild venison & game, organic and free range
& fair
trade goods, dry cured bacon, Scottish wines, beers & spirits
and of course our range of home
cooked
foods….all made on the premises from the best of
ingredients. We can take orders for
picnics,
parties, birthdays etc etc. Just email us with your requests.
We have lovely cards, books and gifts as well as arts and crafts.Aswell
as all this we still perform all the usual services that people expect
from a village shop (many of them free of charge, so don't forget to
support the facility, village shops are a disappearing feature in this
country, "Use us or
lose us!"). We
are a post office with banking facilities, we have fishing licenses for
the local fresh water lochs, newspapers, we take village hall bookings
& payments. We have information on local events &
functions and
ticket sales, advice on local facilities where to eat and stay. We are
also the unofficial village watch and keep an eye out for the vunerable
in the village and make sure folk know what is going on if anyone needs
help, an essential hub in a village community.
